BIO.be is a subsidiary belonging to the Institute of Pathology and Genetics (IGP) which is a institution specializing in medical diagnostics in Anatomopathology, Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology and Molecular Microbiology.
The IPG created in 2004 the Bio.be interface, which allows it to offer a genetic analysis service such as DNA tests but also to collaborate with university laboratories, research institutions or even with the pharmaceutical industry in the context of clinical studies.
The IPG offers a multidisciplinary patient care service, including medical consultations provided by physicians specializing in clinical genetics, neurology, and pediatric neurology. Genetic counseling consultations, psychological support as well as administrative assistance and dietary monitoring in the management of metabolic and genetic diseases.
All of IPG's scientific activities have been accredited on the basis of the ISO 15189 standard since 2009.

How to do a DNA test with Bio.be ?
Performing a DNA test with Bio.be can be done by a simple appointment at the IGP in Gosselies. A simple oral swab carried out on the spot by the medical staff is requested for the genetic analysis. You cannot use any other type of sample for the test. The laboratory offers this service either at the request of a court, or on a private basis, as part of a private test, some conditions must still be respected.
For private requests, all participants must agree to the test.
For children under 1 year old:
The consent must be provided by the mother and the father who must come to the appointment for the samples. It is important that the parties commit themselves voluntarily and without constraint to carrying out the DNA test.
Verification of the identity document and the act birth is done by the laboratory before the analyzes.
For children aged 1 to 15:
Analysis is possible if:
- The child bears the name of his mother and that he must be recognized by his biological father
- The request comes from a lawyer as part of an advance analysis in order to speed up legal proceedings.
For other requests, the general rule is to refuse the test in order to protect the interests of the child.
For children over 18:
The test can normally be accepted if all concerned agree. Even if the test only concerns the father and his child, it is imperative that the mother is aware and agrees.

Pro Deo procedure:

If the participant does not show up on the day of the appointment after a second reminder, the laboratory issues a default letter to the court indicating that he is incapacitated. to accomplish his mission.
Refusal to do a DNA test is possible but must be used as evidence to define the parentage of the child.
